Starting in Detroit in the early 1980's Jerry Light refiners was founded by Brian Light's father.
Soon after, in 1984,
Brian joined the United States Army. He was in the 7th infantry division stationed at Fort Ord, in Monterey CA. After three years active duty, Brian went home and worked with his father until his Iather's death in 2006. Brian and his brother then worked to build Precious Metals and Gems in Detroit, Mi. Together they built the family business to over 150 million in gross revenue. Brian left the family business to pursue other ventures in 2011.
Glenn Bednarsh, also from Detroit Michigan ,was raised in the jewelry business as well. His father Max M. Bednarsh founded Antwerp Diamonds, a diamond wholesale company and retailer of fine jewelry. Glenn then took over his father's business after he passed, until moving to California in 2013 .
Glenn and Brian have been friends since they were 15 years old. One night, The two were watching the news. There was a story about a soldier who waited two years to get prosthetic legs. This soldier had lost his legs caught by surprise by an IED.
They wanted to do something to help these soldiers. It was that moment Gold For Troops was founded .
